Rocket FM Port

Someone emailed me about porting my RocketFM application over to another language such as Java/Groovy. I am unable to locate that email so please contact me if you are reading this. Thinking about that brought up some interesting questions for me that I would love some thoughts on. Right now I just have a single project that is hosted over at RIAForge. How can I create a new project based off of this. While most of the changes are back end I think there needs to be a few changes in a couple places and I am not quite sure how to make these changes available to others. Do I treat it as a totally new project? Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Hi Dan
I think I'm the one you're talking about in this post as I wrote you a mail on March 11.
I mentioned the idea if it would be doable to change the code so it works with JAVA/BlazeDS/Flex combination.
The reason why I wrote you is because I'm currently working on an application on top of Alfresco's Content Management System. This is all done in java but the front end is Flex as it looks way better than the current competitors.
Minor problem is, that it's not very easy to find documentation on how to get all things done.
Your tutorial came in very handy but of course I had to rewrite all Colfusion components to Java.
Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that I'm still around ;)
kind regards

What about a flash file that allows for all of the settings to be passed in using flash vars. This is how I am doing it with my CFMU project and it worked out great. I was able to create a custom tag in ColdFusion as a wrapper but really the flash file could be used in any language "custom tag". I think a similar approach may work here.

Hey,
I have no experience in using flash vars but to be honest, porting your project to make it work with Java/BlazeDS wasn't that hard after all.
Having not much of Flex experience, that part was the hardest for me.
Working on this project however, I get the feeling that we're all working on a technology that's still not mature but that's evolving in a steady way, for example, for some functionalities I wanted to add, I had to switch to the latest Flex SDK and Flash Player 10.
The part where I'm stuck right now, is opening a server side file on the clients' pc.
Does anyone can point me in the right direction, or is it even possible with the security restrictions?
Thanx
Jan

Anyone have luck using Railo instead of CF8?

Hi. I think that it is better seen as a new project. You'll spend more time, but eventually you will be easier.
