3 More Reasons To use CFEclipse

Word Count: 152

If you actually need convincing on why you should be using the best editor in the cf market, I have 3 more for you. As always big thanks to Mark for all his hard work. To learn more about CFEclipse visit the link below.

  • SnipEx - SnipEx is a new server side project, written in CF which allows CFEclipse's Snippets View to get snippets from a remote server.
  • ColdFusion 8 Tag Support - Mark has already release an update for ColdFusion 8. While some tags and attributes are missing I am sure Mark is working hard to get it updated.
  • Presentations Online - Mark has a page with links to all of his presentations, pdfs & code samples.

hint: if you want people to start using cfeclipse, make it easy to install. Currently it's a pain in th arse.

What do you find hard to install, eclipse itself or the cfeclipse plugin? I have no problems installing on win xp machine.

Installing Eclipse is as easy as unzipping a file.

Installing CFE can be done in what, 3 maybe 4 mouse clicks, if installing from the CFE update site.

I agree, I have never had issues installing it.

I agree it is easy to install but what I wish there was an installer program that would unzip and create a Start Menu "Eclipse" group with the shortcut to the Eclipse program. I know it's easy to do that, but it's still a pain and something I've forgotten a few times after installing.

You know... I used to complain about the install of Eclipse + plugins, among them CFEclipse, of course, but then I installed CS3 Web Premium... The first time, Fireworks CS3 wouldn't run, so it had to be uninstalled and then re-installed... which took almost two hours!!! That's to add to the 2.5 hours of the original install... Then, of course, after installing... the serial can't be installed at install time... only on the first use. I am still not a big Eclipse fan, but I am getting to like it more and more as a ColdFusion IDE.

I think you have to really get use to cfeclipse to truly enjoy it. The reason I enjoy using it so much is that everything is integrated into 1 IDE. You have your editor, browser, help resources, component broswer, log viewer, rds, database viewer and the most powerfull snippets around.
